Pebeo natural charcoals are manufactured in the purest traditional method of carbonized wood. Soft charcoals are preferred to graphite pencils by painters who use them for preparatory sketches for their works on canvas without any risk of effecting the painting surface. A fixative is used to ensure the stablity of the finished work.

Obtained from the craftsmanship tradition, charcoal is a virtually indispensable tool for sketching. The variations in the effects depend on the way the charcoal is held, the degree of pressure exerted, the grain and colour of the paper. All these will make a line that is more or less saturated.
Pébéo kneadable eraser in the form of mouldable paste is used to clear the charcoal by absorbing the pigments that are excessively deposited on the sheets.
The Pébéo pastel and charcoal fixative can be used to fix the powdery charcoal colour without changing the hue. This is essential to properly preserve the work from the weather.
